What's your summer read?

"I love reading and read almost every day. I love a good novel. Books often inspire my collections.

"Last summer was all about dressing the character Gigi, from Collette's short story. This summer, I'm reading M. G. Vassanji's novel, The In-Between World of Vikram Lall.

"It's about a man of Indian descent who grows up in East Africa and eventually finds himself in Toronto. It's about the dichotomies between cultural heritage and nationality as well as having one foot in the West and the other in the East.

"It's a path similar to my own family's -- I was born in Uganda, but came to Vancouver as a small child.

"My Indian roots seemed far away until this year, when Souldaisy was selected as one of 100 Canadian design firms to go on a fashion trade mission to Delhi. It was my first time in India and was an amazing experience.

"Next on my summer book list is The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger."
